What microblading actually is

Microblading is a form of semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing done with a hand tool rather than a machine. The artist uses a row of micro-needles to etch fine strokes into the upper layer of skin and deposits pigment into each one. Healed, the strokes read as individual brow hairs — which is why microblading remains the go-to technique for people who want brows that look grown, not drawn.

A proper appointment is mostly design. Before any pigment touches skin, a good artist maps your brow bone, measures symmetry against your facial structure, and pre-draws the shape until you approve it in the mirror. The strokes themselves follow the direction and curvature of your existing hair so new and natural blend into one brow.

What it fixes

Michigan clients come in for the same handful of reasons: brows over-tweezed in the ’90s and 2000s that never grew back, tails that thinned with age or thyroid changes, gaps from scarring, blonde or gray brows that disappear without pencil, and simply being done with twenty minutes of daily filling. Microblading solves all of these — with results that last one to three years before a refresh.

It isn’t the right tool for everyone, though. Very oily skin tends to blur crisp strokes, and previously tattooed brows usually need powder shading or correction work instead. That honesty matters: the artists we work with will tell you when a different technique will heal better on your skin, because a portfolio full of blurry healed strokes helps nobody.
